The beauty of Glendalough.

Glendalough, and the eleventh century round tower of St. Kevins monastery are one of County Wicklows enduring images. The monastic community that St. Kevin established in the sixth century survived repeated attacks from the Vikings, flourishing for more than 600 years as a center of learning renowned throughout Europe. The name Glendalough means Glen of Two Lakes. As recent as the 1950s ,there were lead miners living at the Upper Lake, but sadly it is deserted today. On a woodland walk through the Glen , the Glendalough Waterfall can be seen.Peace and tranquility is suddenly broken by the sound of rushing water, cascading down the rocks. The Waterfall is an important attraction for visitors to the Garden of Ireland. I visited the Waterfall many years ago, and recently found some old photos of that trip.I decided to paint the Waterfall and I hope you like the result.Contact me on Facebook, Aine Art,Killashee.Thank you.
