A welcome for one and all in Donegal

Image
Dun na nGall translates to fort of the strangers, or home of the strangers, a place where the locals hearts are as big as the mountains and strangers are welcomed warmly. No matter where you go, be it Malin Head right down to Sliabh Liag you will always be met with a welcome smile and friendly chat.Good nature abounds everywhere you go.Do visit the islands of Tory and Aranmore where people live proudly and extend a warm welcome to visitors to their special homeplace.Sitting proudly in the Atlantic Ocean these islands are the jewels in Donegals tourism crown where visitors can experience a vibrancy to a culture that is inspiring and engaging. It is no surprise that artists and musicians have been captured by their beauty for hundreds of years.Donegal is well known for its Blue Flag beaches that offer a chance to chill out, take a leisurely walk or run, or for the adventurous a good gallop on a friendy horse stabled nearby. The oppertunities are endless deep sea diving, sailing, water sk...

Taste of the Lakelands 2018

Image
On the Northern tip of Lough Ree you will come to the twin villages of Lanesborough and Ballyleague. These villages are a relaxing stop over for Shannon cruisers and are famous for fishing.Lanesborough is most noted for the large ESB powerplant that dominates the landscape. The station has helped the local economy not only through employment but through its by-product of warm water pumped into the river attractin g an abundance of fish.Amid the towns dramatic scenery there are restuarants, pubs, and shops for supplies, and the harbour is safe and quiet perfect for a good nights sleep in the cruiser. This coming weekend October 6th and 7th the villages will host the Taste of the Lakelands food festival. Aine Art will have a stand there and I am so looking forward to it.Some of the finest food producers on the island will be there.Celebrity chefs Kevin Dundon,Stephen Dowd,Catherine Fulvio, and Fiona Egan will give demonstrations with mouth watering recipes.Attractions include an ice cream p...

Longford in the Heart of Ireland

Image
Longford long overlooked as a destination for visitors has now been recognised as a treasure trove of surprises in the Heart of Ireland. The surounding countryside which is steeped in history, has a wealth of places to visit and things to do. The county is heaven for the water enthusiast with glorious lakes, rivers, canals providing the opportunity to take part in energetic sports such as canoeing and kayaking, or the more leisurely canal cruising, coarse or game angling. There are walking and cycling routes all along the Royal Canal with breathtaking scenery. The scenery is so breathtaking it is difficult to understand how this part of Ireland has remained a secret for so long. With one year to go, Centerparcs Longford Forest will open at a cost of 233 million.Visitors from near and far will flock to Centerparcs when open, so my advice is to visit soon and enjoy a break in Lovely Longford.I hope you enjoy my paintings of Longford and you can message me on Facebook Aine Art,Killashee

Rich past of the Royal Canal

Image
The Royal Canal which was built in 1789,was first opened in 1817 and its scenic beauty can be enjoyed in many different parts of Longford.Perhaps the most significent section along the Longford stretch of this beautifull Irish Waterway is Richmond Harbour in Clondra, where the Royal Canal meets the River Shannon.Cruising the Royal Canal is a wonderfull experience and a perfect introduction to the laid back way of life that is synonymous with rural Ireland and its people.Draped in beauty, peace and tranquility, the heart of the Irish country side can be explored along this waterway. Clondra with its magnificent cut stone harbour, is an attractive village, with local pubs providing traditional Iriah mucic, excellent food and drink, and quality accommadition. You can also hire a boat from Clondra. One of the most scenic waterways, stretching all the way from Dublin, any visit to Longford would be incomplete without a visit to the Royal Canal.Hope you enjoy my painting of Richmond Harbour.
