Longford at the Holiday World Show

Longford Tourism will be among the exhibitors at this years Holiday World Show. The Holiday World Show will take place in the RDS from Friday January 25th to Sunday 27th.At this show Longford Tourism will promote the Blueway experience among other attractions available to visitors to County Longford.Whether you are into paddling,walking,cycling, or simply hooked on the outdoors, make yours a trip to remember on Irelands Blueways. Through a series of multi activity trails along the Shannon and Canals, Bluways provide a scenic perspective into the heart of the Irish landscape.From leisurely strolls and gentle paddles to adrenaline filled days on land and water,Blueways offers something for everyone.When you stop off in Longford ,do visit the Ballinamuck Visitor Centre,a memorial in tribute to 1798.The Corlea Trackway where a roadway from 147BC was found perfectly preserved under the bog, they also have a Visitor Center and Cafe. Abbeyshrule Abbey is well worth a visit,where the ruins of 12th century Cistercian Abbey can be viewed. The nearby Royal Canal is great for boating and fishing. Do visit Caseys Bogwood Sculptures,Newtowncashel, they are masters of the craft of producing sculptures from oak and other woods that have been buried in the bog for centuries. Visit the Holiday World Show and inquire at the Longford Tourism Desk and plan your trip to Lovely Longford, you wont be dissappointed.

The Old Bog Road

Every June as children we walked down the old bog road.Roads that in years gone by echoed to the soft clippety clop of horses hooves,and the trundle of cart wheels,or the soft whirr of bicycles as the turf cutters came and went all Summer long.This work is older than the nation older than any of us know.The Celts made sacrifices to the bogs,to the gods, and bodies have been found preserved like leather in the peat.Men and women mummified in the black thick mass. We searched the hedges on our way for wild duck eggs much to the annoyance of the adult ducks. We had a connection with this place, for it was where our Father and our neighbour cut the sods. They were expert in the use of the slean, and heaped the sods up on the bank for us children to foot. It was hard work but on a sunny day we enjoyed the fresh air, and calling across the bog to our childhood friends who were given the same task. An Introduction to Aine Art

Hi All I was born in Dublin and reared in Co.Meath beside the beautifull Boyne Valley.I am mostly self taught . I was educated in Kilcock,Co.Kildare where I had an excellent Art Teacher who encouraged me to persue my artistic talents.I entered several competitions and had considerable success.The bug had bitten. After the Leaving Cert. I entered the Civil Service and attended the National College of Art at night.My work is known nationally and have sold numerous works abroad. My subject matter includes landscapes, seascapes,nature and still life.
